For equality, justice, and assembly, Enugu's next governor should be East Zone

The Next Governor of Enugu should come from Enugu East zone for equity, justice – Assembly

…Passes vote of confidence in Gov. Ugwuanyi

Members of a socio-political organization known as the Enugu State Equity and Integrity Assembly have expressed their unequivocal support for the pre-existing zoning structure for the job of governor in Enugu State.

This arrangement calls for certain regions of the state to be given priority over others.

The position of the group, which is comprised of residents of the Enugu West Senatorial Zone, was made public in a communiqué that was delivered by the coordinator, Mr. Gary Eneh, at the conclusion of the meeting that took place in Enugu yesterday.

They highlighted that the system for zoning had contributed to the stabilization of Enugu State and had helped to minimize political tension, animosity, and rancour among the various political actors in the state.

They stated that the next governor of Enugu State ought to come from the Enugu East Senatorial District, and they emphasized that "Enugu West Senatorial Zone is not interested in the governorship position come 2023 as such moves would run contrary to the established zoning formula in the state." This was because they believed that this would promote both peace and equity in the state.

A vote of confidence in Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and the way he has been fostering peace and unity as well as enforcing good administration was passed by the members of the group in a unanimity vote. This was done despite the fact that the nation is now facing economic and security issues.

"The members of the association are unwavering in their support of the established zoning formula in the state," they asserted. That the members are not in the dark about the fact that the future governor of Enugu State should come from the Enugu East Senatorial Zone for the sake of equality, fair play, integrity, and justice." Due to the fact that such a change would be in violation of the preexisting zoning system in the state, the Enugu West Senatorial Zone is not interested in the governorship job that would become vacant in 2023.

That a vote of confidence be given to the kind and hard-working governor of Enugu State, the Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, by the members of this body. These are the declarations that we have made."

The organization argued that both former and current political office holders in Enugu emerged from the zoning system, which ensured that the state would continue to retain its current level of peace and security.

Leaders of the group present at the event include Chief Sam Aneke (Retired Assistant Comptroller General, Nigeria Custom Services); Hon. Nelson Uduji (former member of Enugu State House of Assembly); Engr. Dr. Charles Ajah (former Commissioner for Water Resources, Enugu State); Chief Barr. Peter Aniagboso (former Chairman, Ezeagu LGA); Chief Frank Maluze (Estate Surveyor) and Nze Philip Oko, among others.
