Getting Prepared for Winter as a New Comer

That's really thrilling! If you are not accustomed to it, winter in Winnipeg and Canada at large can be a bit of a surprise, but you will be OK if you prepare properly.

In this article I’m going to share the tips that helped me when i came to Canada newly. Sincerely, it wasn’t funny, my friends who were here before I came told me what to expect but I took them for granted until when I finally arrived. Starting from the airport it was a different vibes all together.

Here are some suggestions to assist you in preparing if you are new comer or you’re about visiting any cold region for the first time.

Wearing the right clothing: Be sure you have a nice winter coat, especially one that is insulated and waterproof. Layering is essential! You will need a thermal base layer, a warm sweater, and a heavy-duty winter coat to wear on top. Make sure to bring gloves, a warm hat, and a scarf (it might be windy, so you will want to cover your face). In addition, make sure you choose high-quality, insulated boots for walking on snow and ice.

Winterizing Your Home: Make sure your doors and windows are sealed correctly so that cold air cannot get in. Think about obtaining thick drapes or window insulation to help keep the heat in.

Car Preparation: If you own a car, ensure that it is prepared for the cold weather. Make sure to get winter tires and have your battery tested. You may also want to carry an emergency kit in your car that includes essentials such as a blanket, snacks, and a flashlight.

Stay Active: It can be tempting to stay home when the snow is piling up, but it is crucial for your health (and your mood) to get outside and stay active. There are several outdoor activities in Winnipeg, including ice skating, skiing, and tobogganing. Simply walking around is a great method to maintain your fitness level.

Be aware of the weather: Winnipeg can be very cold, but the wind is usually what makes it feel even colder than it really is. When you go outside, be sure to pay attention to the wind chill.

Embrace the Winter: Many people find the long winter difficult, but it all comes down to how you think about it. Participate in winter events such as the Festival du Voyageur or Winterpeg (the winter version of festivals) to fully enjoy the season. Being a member of the community can truly help you enjoy the season.
