Trump's Threatened 25% Tariff  On Canada Begins March

According to statements made by President Donald Trump on Monday 24th February, he intends to implement a tariff of 25 percent on the majority of goods imported from Canada beginning the following week. He stated that Canada has been taking advantage of the United States for an excessive amount of time and that it is time to put an end to this practice.

Trump stated that the effort to implement the tariffs is "moving along very rapidly" while he was speaking to reporters during a news conference held at the White House with the French president.

"The tariffs are proceeding in accordance with the timetable and on time. There was a pattern of abuse that occurred over a very long period of time. The tariffs will be implemented, that much is certain, and we are going to cover a significant amount of ground," Trump stated.
The President of the United States made a warning earlier this month to impose a catastrophic tariff of 25 percent on Canadian goods, with the exception of energy, which would be levied at a rate of 10 percent. He even went so far as to draft an executive order to put the tariff into effect.
It has been suggested by economists and other experts that tariffs of such a high level have the ability to throw the economy of Canada into a recession and cause serious economic disruption for industries all around the country.
In the end, President Trump reversed his position after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau agreed to increase the number of resources deployed at the border in order to reduce the number of illegal narcotics and people entering the United States.

Trump has already indicated that the hold will be lifted around March 4 as scheduled, despite the fact that there has been a significant improvement at the border, as seen by the dramatic decrease in the number of migrants apprehended and the quantity of drugs seized.
In answer to a question posed by a reporter during a news conference with French President Emmanuel Macron, President Donald Trump of the United States stated that the deadline for placing tariffs on Canada and Mexico is "on schedule." He also reiterated his assertion that the United States has been exploited "for many, many years."
Additional duties of twenty-five percent have been threatened by Trump for a number of industries, including steel, aluminium, and automobile imports of all kinds. A prior statement made by the White House indicated that these duties, which are scheduled to go into effect on March 12 and include charges on steel and aluminium, will be added to the 25 percent duty that is already being imposed on Canada.

Last week, Canada's ambassador to the United States, Kirsten Hillman, stated that illegal immigration from Canada into the United States has decreased by approximately 90 percent over the past several months. This statement was made in an interview with CBC News.
Using the increased funds and resources at their disposal, authorities from the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) have been able to seize drugs at the border, including fentanyl.
Based on the data provided by the federal government, Canada was responsible for fewer than one percent of all fentanyl imports into the United States, even before these new initiatives were implemented.
